Have a hand-drawn sketch, a pet silhouette, a company mascot, or a photo from a client? Cutter Canvas offers free exact image tracing and optional AI-assisted cleanup to turn a picture into a 3D-printable cookie cutter. Inspect the outline and adjust it before exporting; detailed photos may need cleanup rather than tracing every mark.

How Photo to Cookie Cutter Tracing Works
1Upload your image: Drop a JPG, PNG, or WEBP photo into the Cutter Studio. High-contrast images with clean edges produce the most accurate cutter outlines.
2Choose how to trace: Exact tracing is free and sends your image to our server for processing, so it needs an internet connection. Separate shapes ask you to choose one, keeping its own traced holes. Keep all detail and no extra smoothing are the defaults; cleaner Detail settings may remove small holes. Shapes with more than eight holes cannot be applied. AI-assisted cleanup uses 1 credit and requires sign-in.
3Set the cutter size: Adjust its size in millimeters or inches, blade height and handle, using the live 3D preview to check the result.
4Add fondant cutters or an embossing stamp (optional): In the studio’s Step 3, enable small fondant cutters for the design’s parts, a stamp that presses detail into dough, or both. Your uploaded image becomes the starting artwork when no separate design is selected. Replace it with your own artwork, draw a design, or use optional AI design generation for 1 credit. 5Preview and export: Check the cutter and any extras in the 3D preview. In the studio’s Step 4, download the cutter STL or choose “Download full kit (.zip)” for separate cutter, stamp and fondant-piece STLs. Creating extras from your own artwork and downloading the files is free.

Tips for Photographing Sketches for Tracing
- High Contrast: Draw on plain white paper with a bold black marker or pen. Avoid lined or grid paper.
- Good Lighting: Take the photo directly overhead in bright, even lighting to minimize cast shadows.
- Simplified Shapes: Cookie dough spreads slightly during baking; simplify overly fragile thin extensions (like whiskers or slender tails) to keep cookies intact after baking.
