Cutter Canvas

Dough & Icing Calculator

How much dough and icing do you actually need?

Every cutter shape in Cutter Canvas comes with a built-in calculator that converts your cutter’s exact geometry into real bakeable quantities — dough weight per cookie, total batches, and royal icing weight and cups per order. Here’s how the math works.

Dough weight

Dough weight per cookie is your cutter’s cross-sectional area × your chosen thickness × a standard rolled-dough density of 1.28 g/cm³, plus a scrap/re-roll margin you can adjust (dough gets re-rolled between cuts, so a batch always needs more than the sum of the cookies alone). Batch counts are calculated against a standard 860 g dough batch, so you know exactly how many batches to mix for an order.

Royal icing weight

Icing weight is estimated from your cutter’s surface area and a coverage-style tier — a thin outline uses far less icing than a full flood fill, so the calculator lets you pick the style that matches how you actually decorate. Totals convert to cups using a standard 260 g per cup of royal icing, and to batches against a standard 1060 g icing batch.

These are estimates

Real results vary with your specific recipe, rolling technique, and how thick you actually roll your dough. Treat the numbers as a strong starting point — check them against your own bake before quoting a customer or scaling up a large order. See our FAQ for more on how the numbers are calculated.
